City Tree

Located in Qujiang New District, Xian, China, this project is themed “City Tree” with a fantasy forest narrative. It adopts abstract artistic interpretation of natural elements such as trees, flowers and leaves, rather than replicating real forests, to build an imaginative tree-themed amusement paradise.
The project features an integrated design of custom non-standard tree and three-dimensional flower play installations paired with colorful EPDM elastic flooring. The two-dimensional ground patterns are extended into three-dimensional play structures, forming a cohesive and immersive spatial experience.
Abandoning rigid functional zoning, the site naturally differentiates play difficulty through circular circulation routes, covering sensory games for young children, physical challenge facilities for older kids, and rest and social spaces for adults. Transforming natural imagery from ornamental landscapes into accessible carriers for climbing, traversing and lingering, the project creates an imaginative outdoor exploration space within the high-density urban community, achieving a perfect integration of landscape aesthetics, children’s behavioral needs and community public value.
The local area features dense residential communities and a large number of parent-child families, yet lacks outdoor spaces for children to freely explore and perceive natural elements. Breaking the traditional model of stacking standardized play equipment, the client aims to upgrade ordinary community outdoor venues into imaginative urban public nodes. The project improves child-friendly community supporting facilities, caters to leisure and social needs of all age groups, and converts ornamental green spaces into interactive and vibrant recreational venues.
Hongyang is fully responsible for shop drawings design, fabrication, transportation and on-site installation of the entire project.
The core facilities of this project consist of large-scale bionic forest installations. Their complex multi-curved shapes presented significant construction and technical challenges. Through detailed design optimization and precise parametric modeling, the team fully deconstructed the complex forms. Skilled professional technicians strictly executed cutting, shaping, splicing and welding according to design drawings, while continuously refining construction techniques. The innovative structural solution of applying metal sheet lining inside fiberglass reinforced plastic was adopted, which faithfully restores the original design effect to the greatest extent.
