“Color Blast” is a creative public activation installation located on the rooftop terrace of the Crystal Plaza commercial complex in the core international business district of Qiantan, Pudong, Shanghai. Designed for users of all ages, the project revitalizes the rooftop space and creates an urban outdoor scenario that integrates immersive play experience and diversified social interaction.
Adopting painted landscape as its core design language, the project draws on the artistic concept of bursting colors. Radiating outward from the central core, the spatial layout extends into four rectangular wave-shaped activity platforms. Featuring highly compound and diversified functions, the site integrates shading and resting, recreational play, open performance and lightweight research study functions, fully accommodating the diverse needs of children, teenagers and adults.
A playful micro-terrain hill is arranged at the site center, dividing the whole space into two major functional zones. One side focuses on children’s recreation, equipped with slides, tunnels, climbing walls and other multi-dimensional exploration facilities to satisfy dynamic play demands of young kids. The other side features various resting platforms and mini competition venues, which support parent-child gatherings, youth socialization, small-scale performances and academic seminars, realizing the full-age and multi-scenario value of urban public space.
Hongyang is responsible for shop drawings design, fabrication and installation.
We adopted our in-house structural calculation system to resolve load challenges. Precision cutting of structures accommodates the surrounding installation conditions. Lifting erection is applied throughout the construction process. Elastic sports flooring is selected for impact mitigation, paired with cut-resistant safety workmanship.
