Unable to keep pace with rapidly evolving urban communication demands, traditional phone booths still standing in Shanghai have become neglected telecom relics-often overlooked and occasionally damaged.

Against this backdrop, the newgeneration Shanghai smart phone booth serves as an innovative urban installation. Fitted with rooftop solar panels for onboard power supply, its refined design unlocks great potential for creative urban publicspace renewal. Moving beyond outdated singlepurpose traditional booths, it redefines streetside public amenities, revives neglected urban fixtures, and offers a sustainable, humancentered solution for modern cities.

As a technologically upgraded iteration of iconic old Shanghai phone booths, these renovated smart booths cater to the public’s growing demand for advanced urban technology while safeguarding the daily safety needs of elderly residents who retain memories of traditional telephone services. Beyond free three-minute calls, the approachable “Little Red” smart booths provide all-round services including full-time Wi-Fi coverage, 5G signal reception, wireless charging, USB ports, touch-screen urban maps and one-click taxi hailing.elderlyfriendly services.
