Double Ribbons is an immersive indoor public art installation located in HKRI Taikoo Hui within the core commercial district of Jing’an, Shanghai. As a landmark downtown mixed-use complex featuring high-end commerce, boutique retail and trendy entertainment, the site leverages its prime location to deliver an all-age interactive art and play space.
Centered around two similarly shaped red ribbons, the installation adopts smooth, delicately curved surfaces to form a continuously undulating three-dimensional micro-terrain. Boasting versatile integrated functions, it incorporates distinctive landscape seating, swinging play features, gentle sliding ramps, sloped walkways and a mini amphitheatre. Breaking the flat constraints of conventional indoor spaces, it accommodates resting, active play and casual socialising, and revitalises the vitality of the commercial atrium.
Embedded at the highest bends of the ribbon structure are blue and green functional pods, which serve as enclosed auxiliary spaces while forming playful ramps. Positioned opposite one another, the outlines of the two ribbons resemble the infinity symbol, enclosing two separate sealed zones to enable an edutainment experience. The green zone functions as a classroom and exhibition area, whereas the blue zone is dedicated to puzzle games and recreational play.
Double Ribbons is an indoor public activity installation within the commercial atrium. It creates a social and entertainment hub at the heart of the mall, visible from all floors to draw crowds and encourage interaction. Serving as a visually striking circular circulation platform as well as a challenging experiential route, it allows visitors to jump, climb, slide and weave through the structure. Beyond its playful form, the installation supports adult-oriented events including keynote talks, seminars and live performances.
Hongyang is responsible for shop drawings f design, fabrication and installation.
Elastic sports floor is applied to be impact resistant, and cut resistant safety design is also applied.
